Meet Ms. Marla
About the Owner:
Marla Pollack has been educating students in a variety of subjects and levels for over twenty years. She thrives on her ability to understand her students and their individual strengths and needs. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Oakland University in Rochester Hills, MI in 2000 and started her career in Ferndale, MI teaching middle school students integrated career development and computer literacy program she developed. She also taught both seventh and eighth grade Language Arts, Creative Writing, and Journalism, while working towards her Masters of Art in School Counseling.
In 2011, Marla left the classroom to pursue school counseling. She started this next chapter in a clinic that provided a space for high school students that could not complete their coursework in a traditional setting. Although her title was “Academic Counselor,” she provided more academic assistance for her students’ online learning. Soon after, she spent two years as a high school counselor before moving to Florida, where she helped elementary-aged children develop social-emotional skills in both one-on-one settings and small groups.
During the next four years, Marla actively participated as an integral part of the school’s Collaborative Problem Solving Team, where she provided consultation and assistance for teachers of struggling students. She also provided one-on-one and small group academic intervention to struggling K-5 students in both math and language arts. It is within this capacity, helping students succeed academically and fostering a sense of confidence and self-efficacy, where Marla’s true passion lies. Her experience of over twenty years in education using best practices, combined with research-based intervention strategies and her patience and love of teaching is what drives her students’ success and their ability to make incredible Leaps and Bounds.
